Robert Mazerolle
I suppose I may be defined as an abstracter on form and tension.
This subject is that most attractive and certainly most
obfuscated of human attributes.
The fact that women go through such lengths to obscure,
disguise, cover, enhance, reveal and demonstrate them
- is naturally a rich source for the keen observer. So here
is my abstraction on my own observations. Some invoke
laughter, some surprise, some are dangerous and some
are embraceable. You get the idea.
I am spawned from a rich Cajun family heritage of
craftsmen. So my sculptures employ a variety of crafts. I
eschew the term “multi-media” - since my work appears
on the surface to be of a single medium. In fact the
design of the structures that lie beneath the surfaces are
composed of an orchestration of a variety of skill sets,
such as engineering, woodcrafts, materials explorations
- sometimes even electrical skills are employed. So I
prefer to characterize these as ‘constructivist sculpture’.
I studied at a conceptual art school called the Nova
Scotia College of Art and Design in the 1970’s, and also
at les Beaux Arts de l’Université de Moncton. I have
worked in the display, design and advertising industries
for many years. But having been issued from a highly
artistic family- my main education in studio crafts and
observation originates with my talented Acadian family.
I have been honored with a few awards especially
for my prints. I have exhibited both sculptures and
prints. A few institutions have made acquisitions, and
I hope to add you to my circle of esoteric collectors.
I am able to provide conceptual interpretations to private
and public spaces, so do contact me if you wish to
enhance a space, either indoor or exterior.
